Waking the Tiger is about Somatic Experiencing, an enlightening and important approach to healing trauma that is not as mainstream as other approaches. It is about becoming aware of bodily sensations and working in tandem with an understanding of how trauma affects our neurology and physiology. The book provides lots of exercises on how to utilise this somatic approach, and leads with the hopeful stance that we all have an innate capacity for healing, which I appreciated. The book also goes into detail about some common trauma responses, such as hypervigilance, dissociation, denial, re-enactment, and flashbacks. If you are a practitioner working with trauma, or have experienced trauma in your own life, this book will provide you with an approach to healing you may not have heard about before!
