I found Notes on Heartbreak entertaining, with an empowering message emerging as the book went on. Snippets of Lord’s work have stayed with me, especially her inclusion of philosophical insights, and I was definitely keen to keep reading as each chapter passed. However, I didn’t really feel connected to any of the characters, and I found that the story lacked a certain depth, novelty, and transcendental ‘oomph’. It didn’t blow me away – which is unfortunate as the subject matter could have made for an exploration containing powerful, deep, insight.
