I wasn’t sure what to expect when I came across Perry’s graphic novel, having never engaged in this type of literary medium before. But I was very surprised to realise that I greatly enjoyed and learned a lot from Couch Fiction. This is an excellent and easy read for both therapists, and non-therapists who are interested in learning more about therapy. Through detailed graphic images that take the reader on a journey with the fictional client and his therapist, as well as notes at the bottom of the pages to explain theory, the author covers many concepts within the psychotherapy literature and presents these beautifully. I’d highly recommend this book: it’s a quick read, and you’ll learn a lot (both about yourself and about therapy) within a short space of time. Reading this together with someone else can also be a great way to spark discussion!
